## Limits and interpretation

Native fork: exactly one own user message, first run completed, compaction 84,252 -> 1,586 tokens (UI rounds to 84.3K -> 1.59K). Parent has exactly three completed runs and six messages, with assistant replies FIRST, SECOND, THIRD. Empty control: one /compact message, one failed run, exact empty-conversation validation, zero provider turns and zero compaction items.

Server-only visual matrix remains `[]`. Portable regression uses two ASCII messages of 17,000 bytes each; each exceeds the 16k handoff budget, so both whole items are omitted. Native case accepts the same history; portable empty case rejects before provider session open. The shared helper scans transfers and handoffs in O(T + H) time and O(1) extra space; it does not parse message content.

Two fresh reviewers reported MERGE per lead handoff; no independent forge verification was performed.
