## Shape and implementation

Push to original main-repository branch `t3/instant-image-paste-feedback`; contributor commits retained. No force-push, rebase, merge of the PR, replacement PR, or stack.

Kept reactive per-draft preparing-image state and thumbnail inheritance. Replaced duplicate placeholder markup with the existing tile renderer; the same remove control now cancels acceptance. Completion filters cancelled ids and creates object URLs only for retained images; rejected draft images have their URLs revoked. Compression already running is allowed to finish, with its cancelled result discarded.

Web and desktop share this UI. Native mobile, provider adapters, transports, contracts, and agent APIs are unchanged. Attachment picker, paste, drop, and question attachments use the shared intake path. No continuously repainting animation added. No user-doc change needed for this responsiveness fix.

## Minimal tests

Original PR added zero tests. Existing `apps/web/src/lib/imageCompression.test.ts`: 18 → 19 tests. Added one regression proving synchronous settled-thumbnail inheritance and reuse without another source decode. Disabling inheritance produces `expected undefined to be data:image/png;base64,AAAA`; restored implementation passes.

Post-main-merge lead verification:

- `cd apps/web && vp test run src/lib/imageCompression.test.ts src/questionAttachments.test.ts`: 2 files, 22 tests passed.
- `cd apps/web && vp exec tsc --noEmit`: exit 0. Existing Effect function-opportunity suggestions are outside this diff.
- `vp lint` on the eight changed files: exit 0.
- `git diff --check origin/main...HEAD`: passed.
- Implementer ran scoped format/lint and web typecheck before main merge; commit hook formatted staged changes.

## Fresh adversarial review round 1

Both reviewers read the complete diff against current merge-base at [bd8533b](https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/commit/bd8533bcc1dea46c9bf4a91922744356a5399c26); no blocking findings and no maintainer product decision.

- Reviewer A: Codex `gpt-6.1-sol`, VERDICT: MERGE. Reviewed cancellation, overlapping intake, per-draft state, question closure, slot/send guards, cache transfer, and URL rejection. Its independent test invocation used a project selector not configured at that invocation root, so it did not independently reproduce tests; lead and reviewer B did.
- Reviewer B: Claude `claude-opus-5-5`, VERDICT: MERGE. Independently ran 22 focused tests. Rechecked prior resting-composer bot concern as fixed. Optional observations: progress-label transition around upload startup; concurrent source decodes increase peak memory; fast later paste can appear ahead of slower pending paste. These are not blockers and no memory measurement is claimed.

Real-client evidence, second proof audit, and current-head CI will be appended after capture. Earlier green CI covers the contributor head, not the takeover head.

## Cancellation failure follow-up and fresh review round 2

A new current-head bot finding after round 1 was confirmed: a removed image's delayed compression failure could overwrite a newer thread error. Fixed in [3b5b338](https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/commit/3b5b33831afbfd8ae4eb875f097dc26bac4743bc): failures are keyed by image id and only failures belonging to tiles still present at final cleanup are reported. This also covers a failed tile removed while a sibling remains pending. Scoped format, lint and web typecheck passed after this change.

Both fresh round-2 reviewers independently read the entire diff at [3b5b338](https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/commit/3b5b33831afbfd8ae4eb875f097dc26bac4743bc), with merge-base unchanged, and returned VERDICT: MERGE. No unresolved blocking findings or product decisions. Tests were not rerun by those reviewers to avoid disrupting the running capture server with Vite configuration changes; the lead reruns the focused suite at the final gate.

Lead integrated client pass at that exact clean head: reusable driver ran real fresh-state app at 1440 light, using synthetic clipboard input; captured natural preparation (7.5-second video) and a separately disclosed bounded native-encode hold. Inspected source-thumbnail tile at 0% while held, enabled final preview after release, and removal leaving zero attachments. No speed or upload-completion claim follows from the held run. Final matched baseline/head evidence and matrix are separate deliverables.

Final gate: final head 3b5b33831afbfd8ae4eb875f097dc26bac4743bc; focused tests 22/22 pass, git diff --check clean. Cafe reports 31 successful checks, zero pending/failing; native conflict observation stale. Owned web/backend/driver stopped by captured PID after cwd checks; listener ports are clear.
